.....In the office, when placing an important report on your superior's desk, you may want to include
a piece of paper (preferably with a fancy, curlicue-lined border) stating: THIS CERTIFICATE
GOOD FOR ONE FREE CARBURETOR TUNE-UP ON ANY MERCEDES BENZ OR
BMW. It is also polite to engage in pleasant small talk that demonstrates your concern
for your superior's well-being, but try to keep this rather straightforward and simple, and not
overly personal. It is perfectly correct, for example, to say, "Yes, I can understand why you think
this report is no damn good, but, by the way, how's the wife?" Alternatively, your boss may feel
rather less than at ease should you phrase it, "Yes, I can understand why you think this report is
no damn good, but, by the way, has the receptionist testified yet at your divorce
trial?"......
